U.S. President Donald Trump will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday in Alaska. The two leaders are set to discuss a potential peace deal between Russia and Ukraine.
Trump answered questions on the matter from reporters in the White House Monday.
Trump suggested the 44-month spanning war “could have been a third World War” if it weren’t for his involvement in negotiations.
“I don't think that's going to happen now. But I thought it was very respectful that the president of Russia is coming to our country, as opposed to us going to his country, or even a third-party place,” Trump added.
Regarding Ukrainian President Volodomyr Zelenskyy’s involvement in discussions, Trump says he will talk with him immediately after and try and organize a meeting between Putin and Zelenskyy.
