What many don’t know is that there is also a 3rd Sphinx Temple to the north of the Great monument and built by 18th dynasty king, Amenhotep II, father of Thutmose IV, who was the man that cleared away the sands from around the Sphinx possibly when his father was still king and then erected the Dream Stela.
This temple is hugely important to the study of the Great Sphinx on the Giza Plateau and in our study of the god Horemakhet or Horakhty, which the Sphinx is a representation of. Inside the temple we have the first ever depiction of the famous Aten sun disk, made famous the the heretic pharoah Akhenaten, the great grandson of the builder of the temple, Amenhotep II. Was he the true grandfather of Atenism?
We also find a number of bizarre stelae inside known as ear tablets, giant plinths of stone that depict anything from one to 31 human ears. What are they and what was their purpose?
