Pharaoh Ramesses II Bronze Sword and Military Barracks

As reported on the Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities and Tourism this week, a huge new discovery has been made, in a mission led by archaeologist Dr. Ahmed Said El-Kharadly.

A series of mudbrick structures have been discovered, dating back to the reign of Pharaoh Ramesses II of the 19th Dynasty. They were found at the Tell Al-Abqain site in the country’s coastal Baheira Governorate.

These structures were military barracks for soldiers, and store rooms for weapons, food and provisions and the major find was a bronze sword, inscribed with the cartouche of Rameses the Great.
